About Cable Railings
Cable railing systems transform deck perimeters into sleek, minimalist boundaries that preserve your views while meeting all safety requirements. Dream Decks installs marine-grade stainless steel cable railings using components from industry leaders like CableRail by Feeney, Atlantis Rail, and RailFX. The thin horizontal cables virtually disappear from view, making them the premier choice for lakefront properties, hillside lots, and any location where scenic vistas deserve unobstructed appreciation.
Our cable railing installations pair 1/8-inch or 3/16-inch diameter stainless steel cables with posts of your choosing—powder-coated aluminum for minimal maintenance, stainless steel for ultimate durability, or wood for warmth and tradition. Cables pass through intermediate posts and terminate in tensioning fittings that maintain proper tautness. Code requires cable spacing of no more than 3 inches (to prevent a 4-inch sphere from passing through), so each run includes the appropriate number of horizontal cables based on your railing height.
Proper cable tension is critical for both safety and aesthetics. Loose cables can bow outward, potentially allowing wider gaps. Our installers use calibrated tensioning tools to achieve 300-350 pounds of tension per cable, then perform final adjustments after the system settles. We also plan intermediate post placement to minimize deflection across long spans. Regular inspection and occasional retensioning keep your cable railing performing safely for decades.
