About Pressure-Treated Pergolas
Pressure-treated lumber provides an affordable foundation for pergola construction, offering proven durability and protection against rot and insects at significantly lower cost than premium wood species. Dream Decks constructs quality pressure-treated pergolas that deliver excellent value while maintaining attractive appearance and structural integrity.
Modern pressure treatment uses copper-based preservatives that protect southern pine lumber against decay and termite damage. The treatment penetrates deep into the wood, providing long-lasting protection even when the surface weathers. Today's treatments are significantly safer than older formulations, meeting strict environmental standards while providing excellent performance.
Pressure-treated pergolas benefit from finishing to enhance appearance. Fresh-treated lumber should dry for several months before staining—we plan project timing accordingly. Semi-transparent stains add color while allowing grain to show. Solid-color stains create uniform appearance that hides any imperfections. Painted finishes provide maximum coverage but require more maintenance. Unfinished pressure-treated lumber weathers to a gray color similar to aged cedar.
